Schedule

All times are given in US Central Daylight Time (UTC -5). You can convert that to your local time here. (In the #schedule channel in the server, times are displayed already in your local time.)

This schedule is "final" as of March 14th, but past experience has taught us that things can still change at the last minute!

Friday

Time Event
4:30-5:00 PM Opening Ceremonies
Arethinn

Welcome to Shining Hearth!
6:00-7:00 PM The Realm of Refuge
Andros

We will use visualization and mindfulness techniques to assist the participants in connecting more with their 'kin selves and to better orient theirselves to the gathering.
8:30-9:30 PM Elvendrums listen-along
Presented by Arethinn

Elvendrums were a Celtic tribal fusion band who were most active in the late 1990s through mid 2000s, performing at numerous Renaissance festivals. They were serious about their tagline "A band of Elves", not only appearing dressed as elves on stage, but also being members of Otherkind community discussion lists. Their music can be hard to get a hold of nowadays. Come listen to selections from their albums The Dragon (1999) and Gateway to Faerie (2001), accompanied by a slideshow of elven and faerie art.
10:00 PM-12:00 AM Jackbox games
Hosted by Celebron and/or Andros

Free for players. Just go to https://jackbox.tv/ and enter the room code that will be posted in the Rec Room text chat.

Saturday

Time Event
11:30 AM-12:30 PM Ruby Slippers: You Have the Power to Go Home.
GlendaleDebbie

This is a guided journey to your unique homeworld. Even though we are going on a journey together, we will part and each one of us will go the place that is their kin home. There, each one can decide if they wish to speak to their kin, ask questions, or be an onlooker. One goal of this journey is to provide the basic directions so that after our journey each one can go back to their own world without further assistance whenever they choose.
2:00-3:00 PM Sanctuary Meditation
Tuiliel

In this workshop, Tuiliel will lead a guided meditation to a place of sanctuary she calls the Waystation, where healing and respite can be found. Once you've been led through the main atrium to the top of the great tree, you are welcome to wander, though this journey will take only ten more minutes from that point before Tuiliel gathers everyone back. We'll have a little bit of time to share stories and experiences before the end of the session. All are welcome to return and explore more whenever they like.
4:00-5:00 PM Poetry Circle
Everyone

Bring your own works to read aloud if you got 'em, or magical favorites from other authors if you don't, or choose something from A Faery Miscellany to share with everyone. Short prose of up to 1000 words is also suitable.
6:00-7:00 PM Sustaining the Dreamself: Magical Self-Care for Otherworldly Beings
Andros

Psychic self-defense and magical first aid for the "banality"-sensitive.
8:30-9:30 PM Otherkin and Religion
Group discussion moderated by Arethinn

How does being otherkind intersect with your religious or spiritual practices? Group discussion; prompts will be provided.
10:00 PM-11:30 PM Movie: Ember Days
Presented by Andros

Everything but the kitchen sink in this one: Queens of Faerie, fallen angels, Nephilim, Greek gods... IMDb and God Awful Movies tell us it should be good for some mythical laughs!

Sunday

Time Event
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM Sídhe Music and Story: A Concert
Crow Bard

The fifth album by Crow Bard's duo, Neptune's Keep, is a musical trove of Irish "fairy" folklore. Gentraige (merry), Goltraige (sad), and Súantraige (lullaby) – three forms of Sídhe "fairy" music – waft in loveliness and enchantment throughout the album bearing their name. We meet a regal Sídhe Queen, a mysterious disappearing island, Shadowy Púca Horses, and more! Weaving around the songs, an original short story brings additional emotive and narrative depth.

Join us for a screening of this epic work, including music, film, and a live reading of the short story. Dramatic, Otherworldly, and hauntingly beautiful – in this music, magic abounds!
2:00-3:00 PM Demon Friends: How to meet and make friends with noncorporeals from the next realm over (demons, jinn, ifrit, etc.)
GlendaleDebbie

A talk about why demons can be helpful and nice. How they have been "demonized" and enslaved in the past. Examples of what demons can do for us when befriended. Do's and Don'ts about working with demons. If we have time, Q&A about demon work or sharing of personal experiences.
4:00-5:00 PM Using Stellar Timing for Holiday Cycles
Tuiliel

In this presentation, Tuiliel will discuss the idea of using the passages of stars, rather than the movements of the sun and moon, in order to time holiday celebrations. She'll go over a few historical examples, including the Ancient Egyptian New Year, as well as new calendars, such as the Pleiades cycle described in Morgan Daimler's book Living Fairy. Tuiliel will also share details of her own personal cycle based on the star Spica, and where to get the information needed to create your own cycle based on your favorite stars.
6:00-6:30 PM Closing Ceremonies
Arethinn

Farewell from the Hearth. See you next year!
6:30-8:00 PM Debriefing and "Dead Dog Party"

Time to wind down, discuss highlights and lowlights of the gathering, and have a last beverage or snack before you go. Andros will be doing his customary end-of-event Tarot reading during the party.
